Tŷ Hafan Annual Report 2025: thoughtful design for a vital Welsh charity

Tŷ Hafan is a children’s hospice supporting children with life-shortening conditions and their families across Wales. Its care reaches families in the hospice, at home, in hospitals and in local communities, offering practical and emotional support through a child’s life, at end of life and through bereavement.

For the year ended 31 March 2025, I designed Tŷ Hafan’s Annual Report and Financial Statements: a substantial publication that brings together the charity’s work, the experiences of the children and families it supports, and the financial information that helps supporters understand the difference their contribution makes.

Making an important story easy to follow

An annual report has a serious job to do. It needs to meet its reporting responsibilities, but it should also communicate the human purpose behind the figures. For a charity such as Tŷ Hafan, that means creating a report that gives equal care to the stories of families, the work of staff and volunteers, key service activity and the financial review.

I created a clear, engaging layout that guides the reader through those different parts of the report. Strong section openers, accessible typography, considered data graphics and Tŷ Hafan’s bright, welcoming visual language help turn a detailed document into something that is easier to browse, understand and retain.

Care, impact and financial information in one publication

The finished report explains Tŷ Hafan’s care and support for children and families throughout Wales, alongside its fundraising, people, governance and financial review. The 2024/25 financial year recorded total income of £12.4 million, and the report uses clear visual presentation to give readers useful context around information that might otherwise feel difficult to absorb.

The annual report needed to feel professional and accountable while remaining warm, approachable and true to the charity’s personality. The supplied inside spread shows how financial information, key facts and illustration can sit together on the page without losing clarity.

Design for a charity that matters locally and nationally
